Here’s the final stop of this edition and it’s all about the positive impact our programmes can have outside of the workplace.
Many of you will be familiar with Resilience.
Developed by OTD’s Louise Roberts and Tina Dullaghan, it’s a training programme that harnesses the power of Lego Serious Play as a way of enabling people to tell their own resilience stories.
Originally crafted for a face-to-face audience, it has been successfully reshaped and repurposed for a virtual world too.
Learning from each other
While primarily a commercial training product, we’ve also delivered Resilience to local charities – but never before to a group of care leavers.
Working in partnership with Birmingham Children’s Trust, Louise and Mike Lennon welcomed seven young apprentices for a specially adapted version of the programme.
While we didn’t know the personal circumstances of the attendees, we understood that each person had experienced a life journey that few of us can comprehend.
Our job was to help the group to recognise the times they have been resilient. And there have been many.
By creating a safe space, we earned their trust and each of them shared their own incredible resilience stories and explored the tools and techniques to be their best resilient self.
We hope the experience will support them as they continue to thrive into adult life. It has certainly been of huge benefit to us.
Louise said:
“As someone who delivers a lot of training, I am used to teaching the people in the room but actually it was the opposite in this case. I have learnt so much from this wonderful, young group.
“They offered different challenges, they spoke their minds and it really made me see the tools and techniques we use from a different perspective. I will be doing things differently moving forward.”
