Here’s the final stop on this edition’s tour of our latest news, views and opinions.
And it’s a hugely important one.
As you may have seen via email and social media, OTD’s Qian Zhao and Hayley Rock are embarking on a pretty incredible feat this summer.
The guys have agreed to descend from the top of one of Birmingham’s tallest buildings to raise money for one of our four chosen charities, Edward’s Trust.
Why, you may ask, would you choose to abseil more than 100 metres down a block of concrete?
For Hayley – and for Qian – the answer is a truly personal one.
Hayley’s best friend is surviving a bereavement that few of us could ever comprehend, having recently said goodbye to her son, Harry.
Edward’s Trust exists for people like Harry’s mum. It’s here to support parents and young people through unspeakably difficult times, yet it receives no core funding for doing so.
By putting themselves through what many of us would consider to be an avoidable ordeal, Qian and Hayley are helping to generate the funds that will keep Edward’s Trust alive.
This one is for Harry.
- Thank you so much to everyone who has generously donated to the abseil appeal so far. If you’d like to help, here’s how to do it.
