Give luck a chance

Daphna Avital is on a mission: to help you attract luck

Daphna Avital

The OTD business coach has developed an exciting new workshop – attracting luck – which might just change your fortune.

We asked Daphna to tell us a little more about it…

I recently had the opportunity to deliver a lecture about luck; I decided to reenact an experiment by Professor Richard Wiseman and see the results for myself.

The lecture took place in a hotel in Israel, and I asked participants to go to certain places in the hotel in search of information.

For example, could they count the number of martini glasses in the lobby bar?

Could they tell me how many towels there were in the spa?

Could they ask reception how many guests were in the hotel?

And so on.

Before the lecture started, I placed envelopes in highly visible spots – on the reception desk, at the entrance to the spa, on the counter of the lobby bar.

I didn’t even try to conceal them, I casually placed them where they were highly visible.

Each envelope carried the logo of the participants’ company, and read: ‘If you see this envelope, stop counting and bring it to Daphna Avital’.

Inside the envelopes were scratch cards which could bring up to 200,000 Israeli Shekel to the lucky winner.

All the participants came back to the lecture hall with information about guests, towels and martini glasses. Not one of them saw an envelope.

When I showed them the photos of where the envelopes were placed, they were beside themselves!

How could they have missed the opportunity to win 200,000 ILS?

Opportunities are all around us, sometimes right under our noses.

In an advert that jumps, in a piece of conversation we overhear, in a new acquaintance we can meet – the trick is to pay attention and identify them.

So why don’t we?

Identifying opportunities involves two characteristics.

The first one is curiosity.

How curious are you? When faced with a new task, are you excited about it?

When coming across new technology, would you rather explore how it works or stay with what is comfortable and familiar?

Some of us are born more curious than others, but curiosity can be cultivated; you can attract luck.

Take the test to see how curious you are: https://www.ootsuk.com/
