Inspiring our communities: round-up

We’re putting the finishing touches to our latest annual inspiring communities report, which delivers a comprehensive round-up of the donations and activities we’ve undertaken over the last year.

But there’s plenty more to come …

Later this month, Lou Roberts and Megan Farnworth will be heading to London for the latest season of Female Founders, a programme specially designed for aspiring female entrepreneurs.

Through our ever-popular Power Presenter workshop, we’ll be equipping business founders with techniques used by the world’s leading presenters.

They’ll learn how to understand their audience, adopt strategic styles, develop unwavering self-confidence, and use interactive technology to enhance performance.

Every minute of Lou’s time is donated as part of our commitment to helping to make a difference.

We were proud to take part in the nation’s biggest mental health conversation earlier this year.

Time to Talk Day takes place every February. It’s a day for people, communities and workplaces to come together to talk, listen and change lives.

Many of us find it a challenge to discuss our own mental health but we know that the more we talk, the better life is for everyone.

We also asked people what their workplace is doing to address barriers to race equality.

Race Equality Week, an annual UK-wide movement which unites thousands of organisations and individuals in reflecting and more importantly, taking action.

One of our actions as a business has been to invest in the training and development of our own people.

We’ve worked with subject experts, such as Bianca Jones, Nathan Dennis and Mawa Toure who have each enabled us to learn so much more about how to recognise and challenge microaggressions, techniques to reduce racial discrimination and what it is to be ‘anti-racist’.

It’s a journey that is inspiring lasting change in our workplace and one we continue to take as a team.

Finally, the elves of OTD have been busy preparing Eid gifts to donate to Birmingham Children’s Trust.

We were joined by Omar Rashid, president of the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce, who shared more about his personal experiences of Ramadan, including fasting, discipline and spirituality.

We hope the gifts bring a real sense of joy to local children and young people who are facing many challenges in their lives.
